Online payment for the tunnel and bridge

Pay for Vaðlaheiðargöng through veggjald.is / tunnel.is within 24 hours before or after passage. Motorhomes are charged by mass; a trailer does not incur an additional charge for a passenger car.

Pay for Hornafjarðarfljót through spolur.is. For a rental car, the operator specifies payment within 24 hours after passage for direct payment by the renter. Otherwise the amount is billed to the rental company, which may add a handling fee.

General road charge from 2026

The base rate for a vehicle up to 3.5 t is 6.95 ISK/km, regardless of fuel type. This is separate from the tunnel and bridge charges.

Rental car
The rental company charges based on distance travelled or a daily rate. The rental agreement sets out the calculation method and any service fee.
Own foreign-registered vehicle
The road charge depends on the length of the stay. The 6.95 ISK/km rate does not apply in this case.
