Vignettes in Austria:
2026 prices and validity

Which vignette you need, when it becomes valid and where separate section tolls apply.

Checked against official sources:

Which vehicle category?

Motorcycle
Separate, lower vignette tariff.
Car/motorhome up to 3.5 t
Vignette for a multi-track vehicle. The technically permissible maximum laden mass applies, usually field F.1 on the registration document.
Over 3.5 t
Generally subject to distance-based GO tolling rather than a vignette.
Trailer or caravan
No separate vignette is required; its mass is not added when determining whether the towing vehicle falls under the vignette system.

A transitional exception until 31 January 2029 applies to certain vehicles registered and administratively limited to 3.5 t before 1 December 2023. Check all conditions with ASFINAG. Special sections carry separate tolls.

When does validity start?

Buying online as a private consumer?

When bought online from ASFINAG as a private consumer, digital 2-month and annual vignettes become valid no earlier than the 18th day after purchase. This waiting period does not apply to 1-day and 10-day vignettes.

  • 1 day: one calendar day, not 24 hours from purchase; available digitally only.
  • 10 days: ten consecutive calendar days, including the starting day.
  • 2 months: from the selected start date to the corresponding date two months later.
  • Annual vignette for 2026: valid from 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2027; the activation waiting period still applies to online purchases.

A digital 2-month or annual vignette with immediate validity can be purchased in person, from an ASFINAG vending machine or an authorised distributor.
