Road tolls in France

On tolled French motorways, the price depends on the route and vehicle class. Check the operator of the section concerned - there is no single charge for crossing France.

French motorways - main classes

Class 1
Overall height up to and including 2 m and maximum permissible mass up to 3.5 t. Usually passenger cars.
Class 2
Height above 2 m but below 3 m and maximum permissible mass up to 3.5 t - for example, a taller van or motorhome.
Class 3
Two axles and height of 3 m or more, or maximum permissible mass over 3.5 t.
Class 4
Three or more axles with height of 3 m or more, or maximum permissible mass over 3.5 t; includes the relevant heavy vehicle combinations.
Class 5
Motorcycles, including those with sidecars, motor tricycles and quadricycles.

When towing, the combination's height is considered; the mass criterion uses the towing vehicle. Some sections and tunnels have special classifications.

How to pay

Toll station lanes are marked by payment method: card, cash or electronic device. On a “péage en flux libre” section, there is no barrier: the registration number is read automatically.
